FAMOUS CROATIAN PASTRY-AND-CHEESE ROLLS SOON A TOURIST PRODUCT

ZAGREB, May 16, 1999 (Hina) - High-class Zagreb hotel Esplanade recently decided to promote its famous "strukle", rolls filled with cream, into a tourist product.

Esplanade will offer its pastry-with-cheese delicacy on the wider market so it will be possible to buy strukle in some Zagreb shops.

"For over 20 years, strukle have been our trademark, just like the Sacher cake is a symbol of Viennese hotels. They are equally appreciated by both domestic and foreign guests, as well as members of the diplomatic corps," Esplanade manager Amelia Tomasevic said at a presentation in Zagreb on Friday.

Strukle are a delicacy of north-western Croatia, a dish made of pastry and cheese. The specialty of Esplanade's strukle is the fact that they are hand-made and not industrially.

As of next week, it will be possible to purchase them in some stores of Diona, one of Croatia's grocery store-chains, initially only in the capital.

The interest in Esplanade's strukle is already high, both in Croatia and abroad, Tomasevic said, adding she hoped the dish will soon extend to a tourist level.
